Thinking of becoming an adult content creator? Don’t jump in feet first, unless that’s your thing of course. Many beginners give little thought to their brand before diving in and expecting to make thousands in the first month.

Before you get started, take a minute to decide on the details that will make or break your success as an adult content creator.

1. Decide whether to show your face.

You can make money on OnlyFans without showing your face if you go about it correctly. This can be a point of anxiety for some creators who think they have to reveal their full identity to build up a following. You’ll be pleased to know that there are plenty of options.

  • Masks and props –  Use wigs, sunglasses or masks to change your appearance and tap into some niche fetish markets
  • Feet only models – A huge market that anyone can tap into without showing their face
  • Cosplay – Creators have migrated over to adult social sites to show behind-the-scenes, exchange private messages with fans and act out character profiles

Of course it can be easier to build up a personal relationship with fans by showing your face, but if you can nail down a niche then it can be just as lucrative. Focusing on one body part can stimulate fans who don’t see your face too. They get to see their favourite parts and you get paid for showing them.

2. Use multiple social platforms.

OnlyFans might be the most popular adult social subscription site, but there are lots of alternative sites that can offer the same (and better) experiences for content creators and fans.

No earning fees

Making money on OnlyFans can be hampered by their 20% earnings fee. If you are happy with paying out a portion of your earnings each month, this won’t be a problem. However, if you want to keep 100% of your fans’ subscriptions, consider starting your adult content creation journey on an alternative OnlyFans site.

  • Mytabu – Monthly membership on mytabu charges the lowest rates possible to creators. This allows you to keep the majority of your earnings which would otherwise be hampered by high earnings fees.

Niche audiences

Another benefit of choosing an alternative platform is the audience you will attract. There are plenty of sites that cater to kinks and fetishes that only make up a small percentage of content on OnlyFans. If you are looking to produce niche content, find a site that gives you an audience who are already primed for it.

  • See Me Kinky – A fetish subscription platform launching in late 2022 that goes deep into niche subcategories. If you are aiming to operate in this gap in the market, create content for audiences who are actively searching for it. Better still, you could even create your own social subscription platform if no existing company is fulfilling your needs. Exhaust all avenues you can, whether that means exclusively uploading to OnlyFans, using a variety of platforms or creating your own brand. There are plenty of adult communities out there – it’s just about knowing where to look.

3. Promote your content through other social media.

The main focuses are going to be Instagram and Tik Tok for multichannel promotion. If you can convert multiple audiences into paying subscribers, you’re onto a winner. The only question is: How do you do it?

Standardise your persona across all platforms

If you are a cosplay content creator, make sure that your Instagram, TikTok and OnlyFans all follow the same themes. Match up the colour schemes and graphics to give your social media accounts a familiar feeling. This will make your persona more recognisable no matter which platform your audience are viewing you on.

Encourage engagement

Get your audience invested in you and find out some more about them. If you can combine your adult content with their interests, you are onto another winner.

Notice how Lauren Alexis – a popular OnlyFans creator – combines adult themes with audience engagement. She gets thousands of responses about topics that have no apparent link to her adult content. Lauren has mastered cross-platform promotion by mixing in genuine engagement with her provocative posts.

4. Incentivise subscriptions.

Most successful OnlyFans creators run promotional offers on their content, providing a free trial week or a discount on longer-term commitments. This can effectively hook your audience in, but then it’s down to you and your content to retain them.

Discounts

Reward your loyal subscribers by giving them larger discounts for larger subscriptions. For example, offer a 10% discount on a 2 month subscription, but give them a 20% discount for 3 months. This will incentivise your audience to pay more and provide you with a steadier, long-term income.

Competitions

This can go hand-in-hand with your other social media channels. Run a competition on your Instagram page for a lucky follower to get a free month of your OnlyFans. You will encourage your followers to engage with your content and might even drive more traffic over to your adult page.

Free

This might seem counterproductive, but incentives are all about the hook. Lots of smaller content creators give away free 1 week trials to get more eyes on their profiles in the hope that the audience sticks around. Therefore, if you are just starting out, consider giving your audience a sneak preview before you cash in.

5. Patience.

Perhaps the most useful tip for making money on OnlyFans is one you don’t want to hear. This is going to take time for you to build up a following and make money. Of course there are anomalies for certain creators who turn massive profits within a month or two, but these are the exceptions rather than the rules.

Here are a few stats that might surprise you:

  • Top creators earn upwards of $100k per month
  • But the average OnlyFans creator earn $151 per month on average
  • The average subscriptions for an OnlyFans account is 21

If you are starting from scratch to build your brand, you will need to be realistic. In the beginning, choose the right platform, incentivise your fans and maximise your social media presence. This won’t get you on a level playing field with the top creators yet, but over time you should see your numbers slowly increase.
